Samsung today announced that it is acquiring a 10% stake in Pantech Corporation for 53 billion won (about $48 million). While the smaller manufacturer may not be as well known here in North America, it is South Korea’s third-largest handset company. The deal is expected to help “further solidify bilateral cooperation in smartphone and other business areas.” Samsung will become Pantech’s third largest shareholder after Qualcomm and the state-run Korea Development Bank which respectively own 11.96 percent and 11.81 percent stakes in the company. . . . → Read More: Samsung Acquires 10 Percent Stake in Pantech

Pantech Perception has been finally announced by Verizon Wireless, even though we’ve first seen it back in January . As you may know from that post, we’re talking about a solid mid-to-high end device with a big, 4.8-inch 720p HD screen a la Samsung Galaxy S III. We’ve already told you that Pantech is working on a smartphone with bezel-less display and voila, the 5-inch Vega Iron is now officially official, at least in Korea and yet again, we’ve no idea whether the company will manage to bring this baby to the Western hemisphere. We do know that “bezel-less” in this case stands for 2.4mm, meaning you won’t be accidentally tapping the screen’s edges, but that’s still not the same as a 0mm bezel.
