The folks over at Patent Bolt have unearthed a new filing from Samsung , one that describes a new method of dealing with icon stacks and folders on mobile devices. A look through the slides and description can be summed up pretty easily — icon stacks will be drawn in a parallelogram shape versus a circle or square, have an accordion style animation when expanded, and use vertical scrolling to navigate through. This should be enough to keep from getting sued sometime in the future, but never say never. . . . → Read More: Samsung files patent for folders and icon stacks on mobile devices

A while back on iPad Live , we got to talking about how we often judge and app by its icon — if the icon is bad, or even just not great, we don’t buy it (ahem, Chad!). There are just so many apps in the store it becomes an easy way to eliminate some. If the developer doesn’t care enough to make a fabulous icon — the thing everyone sees when buying and launching their app — what else don’t they care about? . . . → Read More: TiPb Asks: Do you judge an app by its icon?

MacRumors says one of their readers did some digging through iTunes 10.2 and found that a white Verizon iPhone has been added to the previously existing white GSM (AT&T) iPhone 4 version. [The icons] would be displayed in the Summary window within iTunes when the device is connected. The image is distinct from the original white iPhone 4 icon and clearly shows the antenna break on the top right side of the CDMA version that is not present in the GSM version. . . . → Read More: White Verizon iPhone 4 icons show up in iTunes 10.2

We were quite bedazzled by the HTC Incredible S after our hands-on at MWC , but it’s the auto-rotating icons for the capacitive buttons that left us most intrigued. So we went back to the HTC booth to try to make sense of it all. From what we were able to observe, there’s some optical trickery happening here: the icons appear to be glittering and shimmering depending on viewing angle as if lit through a prism, half-mirror or grate of some kind . . . → Read More: HTC Incredible S auto-rotating buttons explained? 3DBoard uses the iPhones accelerometer and gyroscope to present a “3D” view of the Springboard/Home Screen icons and it looks pretty nifty. Sure it’s pure eye candy and not as functional a tweak as SBSettings or LockInfo, but cool has to count for something, right? It’s coming to Cydia soon and will cost $4. . . . → Read More: 3DBoard bringing 3D home screens to iPhone [Jailbreak]
