IDC: Mobile phone shipments up 18.5% compared to the first half of 2009

International Data Corporation (IDC) keeps meticulous records of who ships what in the mobile phone space and today they’re reporting that shipments for the first half of 2010 totaled 620.6 million units, up 18.5% from the 523.5 million units shipped during the first two quarters of 2009. Phone recyclers in the UK to use stolen handset database

UK’s Crime Prevention Minister James Brokenshire announced a new deal with recycling companies under which they [companies] will use stolen handset database when accepting phones for recycling. The idea is to close a loophole that enabled thieves to sell about 100,000 mobile phones a year. San Francisco fires back over cell phone radiation lawsuit

San Francisco is actually a hotbed of smartphone activity with multiple mobile startups and everyone and their mom rocking an Apple iPhone, but the city is in a war with the mobile industry over the issue of cell phone radiation. Intel inches closer to Infineon acquisition

Back in May we talked about rumors that Intel will acquire German chipmaker Infineon as part of its plans to conquer the mobile market. It seems things are moving forward in that direction, or at least brokers at the Frankfurt stock exchange believe so, causing Infineon’s shares to jump as much as 0.13 EUR (to 5.14 EUR).
