Three months ago, the compensation of Chinese laborers was low enough that those who built an iPhone couldn’t dream of buying one, but the spending power of China in general has increased enough that electronics giant Foxconn (aka Hon Hai Precision Industries) is actually planning to sell such goods in its home country. The Wall Street Journal reports that the company will open ten large electronics stores in Shanghai by the end of 2011, and extend its existing chains of smaller retail stores and booths around the country by about 50 and 200 respectively. The plans aren’t all focused on middle- and upper-class Chinese, as they provide provision for those aforementioned laborers as well — on top of several recent wage increases , Foxconn would reportedly provide $25,000 to employees to help start up electronics stores in their hometowns. . . . → Read More: Foxconn makes designs on the Chinese retail market, gives laborers $25,000 to start stores

International Data Corporation (IDC) keeps meticulous records of who ships what in the mobile phone space and today they’re reporting that shipments for the first half of 2010 totaled 620.6 million units, up 18.5% from the 523.5 million units shipped during the first two quarters of 2009. If that isn’t a sign that the economy is recovering, then I don’t know what is. . . . → Read More: IDC: Mobile phone shipments up 18.5% compared to the first half of 2009

Okay, this one’s a complete and very welcome surprise — some extremely blurry pictures and a quick video of what appears to be a smaller Motorola portrait QWERTY Android slider for Verizon just popped up on the Chinese Hiapk forums — and yes, it’s got the glowing red Droid eye. We’re not sure if that means the Droid line is about to get a smaller midrange sibling or what, but Motorola’s definitely pushing out some of the more interesting Android form factors lately, and this mini Droid certainly fits right in with the Flipout and the Charm . Taiwan news decided to have a little — fun? — with Apple and i Phone 4 by casting Steve Jobs as Darth Vader, laughing as Foxconn workers jump off buildings, and light-sabering off the fingers of customers who complain about reception problems . It’s sensationalistic, callus about the suicides, and convenient in casting blame entirely on Apple for the problems of Taiwanese and Chinese owned businesses, and some might find the imagery disturbing. . . . → Read More: Taiwan news animates Steve Jobs as Darth Vader – Monday video (NSFW-D)

It’s no secret that Motorola is planning to split into two separate companies during the first quarter of next year. The handset division, which has been struggling to recapture their glory days of yore when the RAZR was the must have mobile phone on the market, will continue pumping out mobile phones. The networks side however, the part that makes equipment that operators buy when building out their networks, is rumored to have been sold to Nokia Siemens Networks for $1.2 billion. . . . → Read More: Motorola to sell their network division to Nokia Siemens Networks because America distrusts China?
