 In a conference call to press this afternoon, the FCC announced that it will grant AT&T’s request to formally withdraw its application to acquire T-Mobile US. In addition, the agency will also release a 109-page report today that discusses what it found over nine months of reviewing the merger. In short, the FCC found that the cons of the deal outweighed the pros, and AT&T is likely to build out its LTE network regardless of what happens with the carrier’s buyout of T-Mobile . . . → Read More: FCC accepts AT&T’s request for withdrawal, plans to release report on its findings today (update: it’s out!)

 AT&T today took the wraps off the LG Nitro HD — the carrier's verison of the Optimus LTE. Leading the specs charge is the phones 4.5-inch display (it's an “Advanced High-Performance IPS display, if you must now), with the new high-end resolution of 1280×720.  Verizon has already dipped its toes into the home energy management business, and it looks like AT&T is about to do the same as well. Speaking on a Broadband Breakfast panel in Washington, DC last week, AT&T Executive Director of Public Policy Jeffery Dygert revealed that the company is “in the process of developing” its own home energy management system, which would let users monitor their electricity usage and manage its use more efficiently. That service is said to be a part of the company’s broader Digital Life Project, and it will apparently be marketed to both AT&T’s wireless and wireline customers, but details remain otherwise light for the time being . . . → Read More: AT&T exec discusses plans for home energy management service
